Every month they also feature a destination stroll with a different route.
Volunteer marshals and guide the participants but are not responsible for any accidents that may take place. They recommend that you to wear a helmet, knee and elbow pads.
"Skating has been a hobby ever since I was a kid. Two years ago I moved to London and I joined this group," said Phillip, 22, from Cambridge. He was one of the marshals in charge last Sunday. "Some people become really addicted," he added.
The entire route is between six and eight miles. This definitely demands physical fitness. So be prepared. It’s important to be able to stop effectively when going downhill and to follow the marshal’s instructions for your own safety.
There are good reasons to participate:
It contributes to keep your body in shape. Martin, 20, from Glasgow said, "I can’t afford to visit a gym, it’s too expensive. This is a good exercise and it’s for free!"
It’s an excellent way to get to know other people. Julia, 32, from London commented, “It’s really funny. I meet lots new friends. I can say it’s a good network.”
Another regular at the Roller Stroll, Elisa, 27, said, "I love skating. There is something like this in Rome. I believe Italians are inspired by this idea too."
Some skate because it’s healthy; others do it because they want to create networks. Some even do it for love. "I am here for my girlfriend," admitted Eric, 24, from France.
The next destination stroll is on the 18th May and you can visit the official rollerstroll website for details.
