The Science Museum has recently implemented just that, an adults only night.
The adult themed night began at the museum on Wednesday February 4th and because the event was so well attended and was so popular that the Science museum has decided to make it a regular feature.
On the last Wednesday of every month you and your mates can visit the museum and each time there will be something different to enjoy.
The first night was Japanese themed. Over 400 adults enjoyed wine, Sake, origami lessons and traditional Japanese drumming lessons.
Guests can expect to enjoy 50 interactive physics attractions which include a thermal imaging camera. Artists also make art from bacteria and adults can also have fun by venting with others at the museum’s dialogue events.
Why would adults go to a museum at night? In a recent article on Museum Audience Insight, a survey was conducted which showed that a third of adults felt that museums did not make them feel better informed about current science issues.
They also felt as if content offered in museums was targeted at a lower age group and so they did not completely connect with it.
The Dana Centre which hosts the Wednesday night Adult-only sessions is involved in engaging adults by science and also hosts regular events and exhibitions at the Science Museum.
It did a lot of research before its launch to try to cater specifically to what adults wanted. To see how they conducted their research click here.
The closest tube is South Kensington and the next available adult night is Wednesday March 25th. Of course entry if free, this is our Free issue here at Skinflint, but you will have to pay for drinks and eats if you want them.
